THESE KIDS ROCK
These Prequel Launchpad kids went behind the scenes at Sportsnet Studio in Toronto.
These mini movie moguls are making moves
Last weekend, 22 Prequel Launchpad students became movie moguls.
They gathered at Sportsnet Studio in Toronto to learn to collaborate and negotiate in order to produce the buzziest blockbuster.
Here’s what went down:
Students were in teams representing a movie studio. Each studio was given $50 million, and their goal was to make the most profitable feature film.
How?
✍️ The perfect script: Studios competed against each other to bid for movie scripts across 5 genres:
Superhero 🦸
Fantasy 🧙
Comedy 🤣
Time Travel ⏱️
Robots 🤖
They used factors like “hype” and “script rating” to evaluate each script.
⚡ Hype it up: In order to boost hype, studios spent time making a poster for their movie. But here’s the catch — a great poster costs big bucks (like, $4 million for a set of crayons…)
🎬 The dream Director: Studios then had to negotiate with Directors who specialized in different genres. If they successfully hired a Director in their genre, their movie quality rating went up.
But there was a catch — each Director was given instructions on how to act and negotiate, and they weren’t exactly easy to work with…
⏰ Timing is everything: Lastly, studios decided when to release their movie. Movies competed against each other in the summer, spring and holiday box office seasons.
Every decision the studios made had a point value that contributed to how much money their movie made at the box office.
Watch out, Hollywood. Prequel kids are coming for your jobs. 🎬
