💡 Valuable things kids don’t learn in school

Kids are not learning about AI in school (yet). But that’s not stopping kids from using it!

Without understanding the proper way to use AI to their advantage, the results can be disastrous.

Our friends at TKS just posted about how they’ve received hundreds of applications to their program that are ChatGPT-written. We’ve seen the same with applications for our own program, BETA Camp.

If we don’t teach kids about how and when it’s appropriate to use ChatGPT, this is the future we’re looking at:

Getting caught using ChatGPT like this will get these kids’ applications scrapped. But if they’re caught doing this at school, the consequences can be far more serious.

That’s because many school systems are banning the use of ChatGPT altogether — when instead, they should be investing in curriculums to teach kids about using AI correctly.

Because when it comes to the really important moments, like college essays or a job application, your kids could throw away that opportunity for themselves if they leave it up to AI to do it for them. It not only reflects poorly on their character, but it also robs them of the chance to display their unique perspective, skills, and experiences.

Those are the things that help your kids stand out in the sea of resumes and applications. That’s what college admissions staff and hiring managers are looking for.

The more kids know how these AI tools work (and, more importantly, where they fall short), the more valuable those tools will be. But if kids are taught to see tools like ChatGPT as an easy way of getting out of writing an essay or a cover letter, the more they’ll use it to create generic and incorrect results.

I ultimately believe that mastering ChatGPT and other AI tools can be hugely beneficial for kids — it can help them study faster, learn more, and accomplish their goals. They just need to know how to use it.
