🎮 Your kid thinks video games are good for them

Plus, the kid who started the company that powers the internet, an unmissable podcast, and more.

To all the moms out there — you rock.

I hope you have a restful Mother’s Day. ❤️

In today’s issue:

💻 Guess the biz kid: His company pretty much powers the internet.

🎙️ 3 things I’m excited about: Two programs and a pod.

🎮 Notable nibbles: Teens tell all when it comes to gaming, what you need to know about the current rap beef, and more.

GUESS THE BIZ KID

In “Guess the Biz Kid”, we give you three clues to guess the name of a founder who started their company while still in school.

👉 Clue #1: At 18-years-old, he loved blogging, and used an open-source site to post blogs. But when the owners of the site abandoned it, he took it over.

👉 Clue #2: He grew his open-source empire by democratizing web development, and his company now powers 43% of the websites on the internet.

👉 Clue #3: In 2023, he celebrated 20 years in business as the CEO of Automatic (the software’s parent company), worth over $7 billion.

The answer is at the bottom of this email. 👇

3 THINGS I’M EXCITED ABOUT

1. Parenting & You with Dr. Shefali

On Tuesday, May 14, Dr. Shefali drops her first Parenting & You podcast.

I’m really stoked for this one, guys.

Even though Dr. Shefali is Oprah’s favorite parenting guru (no biggie), she’s keepin’ things real on the pod.

🚫 No celebrity guests

🚫 No blowhard experts

Just real parents discussing real-life struggles in real time

2. Launchpad Business Kickstarter

On Saturday, May 18th, Prequel will be hosting a highly personalized virtual session, restricted to 50 kids only!

At this Business Kickstarter, your 9-13-year-old will:

  • 👀 Learn how to spot opportunities like a true entrepreneur, focusing on real problems that need real solutions.

  • 🧠 Use incredible AI tools to brainstorm and design a product that stands out.

  • 📈 Walk away with a tangible product idea that they can continue to refine and grow.

3. The Ivy League Pathways

Will your high schooler spend the summer scrolling TikTok — or setting themselves up to get into a top school?

On May 18th, we will welcome back Andreas Stamatakis for a live panel and Q&A with incoming Yale and Cornell freshmen (who also happen to be BETA Camp alum).

In this session, your kid will learn:

  • WHY their extracurricular activities matter

  • HOW to set themselves apart by building their own startup

  • WHAT they should do in the summer to bolster their Ivy application

🛠️ Early lessons: This kid grew up working at her parents’ side-by-side competing hardware stores, and boy did it teach her about entrepreneurship (and life).

☀️ Say goodbye to sunburns: Temps are on the rise, and sunny days are around the corner. It’s TIME to think about sunscreen.

💐 Betcha didn’t know this: 10 peculiar facts about Mother’s Day.

🏰 Fact is better than fiction: Why take your kid to Disney when you can visit the real-life places that inspired the films your family loves?

🎤 Keep up with your kid: If you’re as confused as I am as to why everyone is talking about Kendrick Lamar and Drake, here’s a helpful breakdown of their “beef” (and of course it involves Taylor Swift 🙄).

🎭 ICYMI: Get your kid on the stage and watch ‘em shine.
