NEWS YOU NEED TO KNOW

Instagram is trying. I guess.

Instagram is rolling out new safety features for teens, and this time, they actually seem serious. šŸ¤·

Accounts for users under 18 will automatically go private ā€” so no more random followers creeping on their posts. šŸ‘

Oh, and what if your teen is trying to message their crush at 2am? ā¤ļø

Forget about it. āŒ Notifications are getting shut down from 10am - 7pm every day.

This new rollout also gives parents a backstage pass to see who their kids are messaging, but not the actual chat ā€” because, you know, privacy is important.

Adam Mosseri, Instagramā€™s boss, is calling this the ā€œTeen Accountsā€ upgrade, claiming that itā€™s all about giving parents peace of mind.

While these changes do seem well-intentioned, it's hard to ignore the obvious PR play as Congress and child safety groups turn up the heat.

Of course, not everyoneā€™s going to be thrilled. šŸ˜’

Aspiring teen influencers, and kids who use the platform for building businesses (like many Prequel kids), might not love the idea of their accounts being private by default.

However, with social media under fire for harming kidsā€™ mental health, Instagramā€™s finally trying to get ahead of the curve ā€” before regulators force their hand.

Weā€™ll see if this actually sticks or just turns into another ā€œwell, we triedā€ moment.
