Four entrepreneurial activities your kid can try summer
“Mooooom! I’m boooooored!”
These words are probably still echoing in your ear from last summer.
Is it me, or has this school year flown by?
Here are a few things you can try with your kid this summer to hopefully keep them not bored—
And spark their business curiosity. 👊
Visit local businesses
Taking your kid to visit a local business to meet with an owner or manager is a fantastic way to ignite their entrepreneurial spark.
Hit up a mix of:
🍽 Restaurants
🛍️ Retail stores
🛠️ Service businesses (like hair salons and auto repair)
💻 Tech businesses (like startups and software companies)
🎬 And even some fun ones (like entertainment venues)
Equip them with a list of killer questions, like:
How do you attract customers?
What's your biggest challenge?
How do you price your products?
Plan ahead, be respectful, and encourage them to take notes. After each visit, reflect on what they learned, and brainstorm how they can apply these insights to their own budding business ideas.
By the end of the summer, they'll have a toolkit of practical knowledge and inspiration to kickstart their entrepreneurial journey.
Shark Tank game
Since visiting businesses are likely to get your kid’s creative juices flowing, why not turn your living room into the ultimate entrepreneurial battleground?
Have your kids come up with their best business ideas and prepare killer pitches. Invite family and friends to be the "sharks" – the tough investors ready to grill them with questions.
This game isn’t just fun — it’s a crash course in presenting ideas confidently, thinking on their feet, and handling feedback.
Prep your sharks with probing questions, like:
“What is your target market?”
“How will you make money?”
“What sets you apart from the competition”
This role-playing exercise will teach them to anticipate potential challenges and refine their strategies.
By the end of the game, they’ll have a stronger, more polished business concept and a newfound confidence in sharing their ideas.
Dive into some business books
Reading rocks. 🎸
Grab some entrepreneurial books like Kidpreneurs and others from the summer reading list we published last week.
These are a great way to get your little bookworm interested in business. 📚
