6 ChatGPT prompts that will help your kid learn — not cheat
Did you know that your kid has a 24/7 tutor in their pocket?
ChatGPT is a powerful tool that you should be teaching your kid how to leverage. Keeping it locked away from them is the equivalent of not allowing a kid to use a computer 20 years ago.

AI isn’t going away.
And people who use AI are going to control the workplace of the future (did you know that “prompt engineer” is a job now?)
Make sure your kid is one of them.
📝 Homework help
ChatGPT can assist with homework and studying across all subjects.
Let’s take a look at a few example prompts:
✍️ Creative Writing: "I'm writing a story set in a futuristic world. Can you suggest some unique societal norms and technological advancements that might exist in this world?"
First, set the scene “I’m writing a story set in a futuristic world”.
Then, ask a specific question to spark creativity.
➗ Math: "Without solving the equation, can you explain the steps involved in factoring a quadratic equation and why each step is necessary?"
First, tell the AI that you don’t want it to solve the problem.
Then, ask for a helpful explanation of the concept.
Bonus – you can also ask it to solve sample problems, and walk through the steps as well.
📚 Studying: “Ask me 20 questions about the French Revolution.”
Allow the AI to quiz you by generating questions on a topic.
Then, have it grade your responses by following this structure:
👉️ “Question: What were the causes of the French Revolution?”
👉️ “My Answer: Social inequality and economic crisis.”
👉️ “Grade my answer.”
🔮 Personal development
The support that ChatGPT can provide your kid extends far beyond academic help.
It can also be a very cheap therapist/advisor/mentor.
Here are a few prompts that your kid can use to enhance their personal development:
💪 Resilience: “I just failed a test and I feel really discouraged. What can I do to learn from this failure?”
🎨 Creativity: “What are some activities or exercises I can do to enhance my creative thinking?”
🔭 Career exploration: “I’m 12 years old, and I’m not sure what I want to be when I grow up. My favorite activity is soccer and I really like being outside. I also enjoy science and social studies, but I don’t really like math or english. What are some good career ideas for me?”
For this one, be sure to have your kid talk about what they enjoy and what they don’t enjoy.
A note about cheating…
I get it.
If your kid can use ChatGPT to proof-read their essay, they can also use it to write an essay.
They can feed homework questions right into the AI, copy the answers, slam their book shut, and go play video games. 🙄
It’s up to you to set the ground rules and make sure that doesn’t happen. Here are a few tips:
At the beginning, only allow ChatGPT use when you’re with them, and guide them through best practices.
Once they understand the rules, let them use it in a public area of the house, where they know you could be peeking over their shoulder.
Establish clear consequences for what will happen if they get caught using AI to cheat.
Don’t worry, you got this. 👊
